Hospitality Management is a growing field in business. It is estimated to grow over 17 percent in the next ten years. Why not look into the growing field? The hospitality management program at Ashland University offers students a wide variety of options both in and outside of the classroom. Students are able to learn what it is like to be in food preparation, human resources, management, and customer relations, along with many other areas in the classroom and put their skills to the test through internships and work experiences. Hospitality Management majors even get as close to on-the-job management training as they can get in a college setting!
The Future
While they are at Ashland, Hospitality Management majors are encouraged to structure their class schedules to reflect what they would like to do when they graduate. Students can choose classes in cost control, hotel operations, beverage management, environmental management, marketing, and much more to make their experience at Ashland University truly unique.
Graduates of the Hospitality Management program have gone on to work for country clubs, fitness centers, travel lodges, and even Walt Disney World.
Organizations
Students are invited and encouraged to get involved in organizations such as National Society of Minorities in Hospitality (NSMH), which helps prepare students for leading roles in the hospitality industry, and Enactus, which inspires students to take future leading roles in business by taking action now. The Ashland University chapter of NSMH even won two awards last year, one being the Midwest region award for highest membership and the other being Chapter of the Year. Representatives were able to travel to Orlando, Florida to attend the 24th Annual National Society of Minorities in Hospitality Conference and Career Fair and to receive their awards. The Ashland University chapter of Enactus placed runner-up at the regional competition in Chicago, Illinois.
A Word
Students who study hospitality management have a vast understanding of the industry they are going into and feel prepared for their future.
“My favorite part of the hospitality program is the multitude of courses that they have to offer. I’m graduating with such diverse certificates, from Hospitality Human Resources Management to ServSafe Food Production training. They also offer Casino Management and Beverage Management classes, while accompanying them with more serious Hospitality Marketing. There’s something for any industry you’re looking into and they are more streamlined to make sure that it’s relevant to what we’re going to be doing when we graduate.” ~Gina Tornabene ‘14
So, if you want a major that will structure itself around your future, why wouldn’t you check out hospitality management?
